If our Producers are correct, then 2011 could be one of the most innovative years for business owners. Here at Business Day with Terry Bradshaw, we’ve recently examined some of the latest advancements in the world of business including new transportation options, environmentally-conscious business practices, and some exciting financial endeavors that can help our viewers succeed in the global economy.

We’ve also been speaking with experts in the Internet field about some new strategies. Below I’ve compiled a list of a few interesting ideas that may be worthwhile for your business:

1. Consider a hybrid event. This could be a special virtual event that takes place before, during or after a live event.
2. Consider Gamification. Try “gamifying” some aspect of your product or service. This can mean communicating with your network of customers, encouraging competition, and offering rewards.
3. Consider taking social media ROI a step further. Move beyond just monitoring your social media. Mobilize your customers to recommend your products and spread the word about your brand.

This season of Business Day with Terry Bradshaw promises to be an exciting one for our viewers. We look forward to giving many insights on what’s new and compelling. If you would like to share a business strategy that is working for your small business, please email it to me at kburton@productionstaff.net.
Some of the best business ideas getting the most buzz are being featured right here on Business Day with Terry Bradshaw. We hope you enjoy our show.

Dear Viewers,

Welcome to the New Year and to my first blog entry of 2011. We have a lot of exciting news to share with you, including the launch of our North American Energy Series (currently in production). This season, we are committed to providing our viewers with the highest quality television programming. It is our mission to be your independent production company of choice. As one of Florida’s largest television production companies, we hold ourselves to a high standard. Recently, we received 9 Telly Awards and additionally, in 2010, we received high rankings from our show’s Featured Guests and experts. Our show’s producers, writers, videographers and editors are highly experienced and we are on the cutting edge of the latest television, Internet and narrowcast programming and distribution. Thank you for your continued support and viewership.

Well, our economy finally seems to be moving in the right direction. Factories are busier, auto sales are up and consumer confidence and spending are on the rise. There are even signs of improvement in the troubled construction industry. And with all of that, investors are finally responding as well. I love it!

With this positive news on record, I’m now going to switch gears a bit. Today I would like to discuss a new threat to businesses, one that many business owners may never see coming. I’m referring to the recent increased risk to your company’s reputation. As you’ve probably heard, WikiLeaks and other online organizations are accumulating piles of documentation, ready to be dispatched to the public. These “Megadumps” of information are expected to begin dropping early next year. And, instead of being aimed at government agencies, they are now targeting private corporations. Contrary to popular belief, according to recent data, the information being leaked is not classified documents or even trade secrets. Instead, it’sembarrassing information. Fact is, it’s become increasingly easy for employees to anonymously leak damaging information and for that information to be published on the Internet. Right now, there are many American companies that are not prepared for this hit. According to a Harris Interactive poll, only 9% of companies have protocols in place for this type of crises. What does this mean? Companies need to think carefully about where their reputational threats lie. If you are a business owner, you should carefully examine your company culture and practices. Make sure you monitor your internal emails to eliminate the practice of “trash talking” that makes fun of fellow employees, customers or your partners or competitors. Also, check on this: If someone at your company has done something wrong, did executives take strong action against it? You should be addressing all problematic issues. Think about how you would explain your behaviors to your customers, or your partners. Remember, no matter what business you are in, your company can be a target. I urge you to re-examine your business practices and make sure all internal behaviors are in line with the positive image you portray to the public. Remember, this is an age where employees can walk out the door with a thumb drive or lap top containing extremely embarrassing contents, so the threat is much larger than it was just a couple of years ago. It never hurts to think ahead. What if your company is next?

To update you, I will be in Atlanta this weekend and in North Carolina for Christmas. Happy Holidays, everyone!

This is only my second update since returning from Las Vegas in October and I’ve already added a new word to my vocabulary to help describe Q4 2010 so far…Whirlwind! My friends and I had a lovely time in our recent travels to the west. I think all of us are amazed at the unique mix of people in Vegas. Some of them were from the area, and many had traveled from far away. It was a real blessing to meet all the wonderful people, and to make new friends (not to mention the adrenaline rush I got playing blackjack!). This much is certain, I will be going back – one day. Speaking of whirlwinds, if Tuesday’s electoral results sent any message – and I believe they did – perhaps the next 2 years will be handled differently. Riding a wave of major voter frustration and discontent with the economy, it’s been tough to see some of the behaviors on both sides. Now, there’s no choice but to work together. I’m hoping Americans can move forward, dedicated to the pursuit of the ideals upon which our country was founded. I look forward to seeing what lies ahead. As for myself, I go to work every day with passion and I enjoy working. And, like many people I know, I’m still very proud to be a citizen of Florida and the United States!

Being persistent with your engagement in social media communicates your commitment and reliability…

I think one of the most important disciplines for any company is persistence. This discipline is difficult for many companies and many individuals as well. In my own life, a good habit that I have is exercising regularly. No matter how you look at it, regular exercise is a requirement for good health. This is one area of my life in which I’ve been able to be persistent. The same can be said for persistence with social media. While many companies are harnessing the power of social media, in the end, those that are persistent are the ones that eventually reap the benefits of a strong social presence. And, if you and your business have a strong social presence, it’s simply easier for potential partners, customers, employers and businesses to find you. I’d like to point out 3 social media practices for businesses to consider.

1. Track industry trends and keywords– You can do this by seeking out publications and blogs within your industry and subscribing to them. You should also track your industry keywords. That way, you’ll know what’s changing.

2. Build a blog that focuses on your company’s expertise- If a potential customer comes to your website and sees an active blog with insightful posts on how your products or services can help other companies, visitors may be more inclined to consider your company for their current needs.

3. Know what your customers and your customers’ customers are saying- It’s important to read through your customers’ blogs. It gives you insight into their thoughts and what they value. Don’t underestimate how much information you can find on the web. If you can find behavior patterns in your customers’ customers that your product can address, your product will resonate more with them.

Looking back, I’ve had many ideas that have failed or never come to fruition. Perhaps this was because I put the cart before the horse, or perhaps I lacked the time, patience, and persistence to see them through. So, take it from me – work hard and stay persistent.
